Keith Rattray - 'The Bustling Bobby fan Banff'

Abiddy hiz a fitba hero
Keith Rattray is mine bi’ a mile
Iviry time he blasted the ba’ in the net
For sure – it made me smile

He wiz “The Bustling Bobby fae Banff”
Wi’ dynamite in his beets
His venomous shooting wiz legendary
Scared iviry goalie tae his very reets

He’d nabbed goals for Elgin an’ Nairn
Afore becomin’ a Maroon in Mairch o’ ‘69
I took tae him richt awa’
Thinkin’ he wiz jist sublime

At the time Elgin they ruled the roost
For five ‘eer hidna’ lost a league double
Bit wi’ five goals in twa games
Keith’s Number Nine caa’sed them big trouble

That season o’ 1969-70
The sharpshooter wiz at his very best
40 goals – maistly blasters
Pit the meanest defence tae the test

He nabbed fower against Buckie twice
An’ against Elgin he struck a treble
It’s a’ been weel documented
Ye’d better believe it – this is nae fable

Of coorse – Keith wiz kent as a Policeman
An’ as an international he made his mark
For Scotland and Britain’s bobbies
He starred on the fitba’ park

Athin’ wiz deein grand
He wiz Maroons team captain as weel
The ba’ it begged for mercy
Thunderous drives made him the real deal

“The Bustling Bobby” wiz on the crest
The penalty area wiz his beat
Then Morton, they cam’ a’ callin’
Jings, I thocht I wid greet

He nabbed a double in a trial
For Huntly against the ‘Ton
Wid he bide – or wid he go?
Were his Kynoch Park days done?

Bit atween his job as a cop
An’ his love for the Mighty Maroons
He bade exactly far he wiz
I hid oot the celebration balloons!

Top scorer in 1969-70
An’ again in ‘72-73
His blistering drives were spectacular
Maroons fans were fu’ o’ glee

Winners medals finally cam’ his wye
Twa Highland League Cups and an Aiberdeenshire
Fin he decided tae let fly
Man, his beets, they were on fire

Keithie’s time wiz sadly rinnin’ oot
He decided he’d hid his day
Wi’ a hunner’ an’ one goals for the Club
