Nairn County 1 v Keith 3

MAROONS END WINLESS STREAK IN STYLE

Keith ended their two month winless league streak in sparkling fashion at Nairn with a terrific team display that saw sterling performances from the recent signings as well. The only black mark on the afternoon was Liam Strachan’s red card minutes after Nairn had also been reduced to 10 men with the dismissal of Adam Porritt.

A Scott Gray double and Matty Tough’s first goal since his move from Newmachar, left their hosts gasping, indeed the  score-line could easily have been bigger.

Gray could have netted twice before he opened the scoring, getting on the end of a James Brownie cross to head home at the back post in the 25th minute. Ten minutes later some slick, quick fire passing ended with Tough rifling home at the near post.

The Maroons kept driving forward at the start of the second half and the frustrated Porritt saw red following a clash with Rhys Thomas. There was a blip though for Craig Ewen’s troops in the 59th minute when they failed to clear a corner and Glenn Main headed home from close range.

The perfect response came within a minute at the other end when Gray unleashed a 15 yarder high into the roof of the net beyond the helpless Dylan McLean. Two minutes later, Strachan, already booked earlier, received a second yellow card for an alleged dive inside the penalty area.

However, it made no real difference to the visitors’ cause as they continued to deal with the hosts quite comfortably.

Overall, a most satisfying afternoon for those of a Maroon persuasion, ending that winless run with great aplomb.
