Buckie Thistle 10 v Keith 0

NINE MEN MAROONS ENGULFED BY BUCKIE

I’ll not beat about the bush, this wasn’t good to watch as Keith slumped to their first 10-0 defeat for 70 years. The Maroons were swamped by a goal deluge from a ruthless Buckie side, the Jags’ biggest ever win over their long time neighbours. Had it been a boxing match, the referee would have stopped it to avoid further pain after half an hour with the visitors trailing 5-0.

To rub salt in the gaping wounds, Keith ended the game with only nine men, Kian McCredie and Tom Andrews both receiving second yellow cards in separate incidents.

In defence of the Maroons, they were minus no fewer than seven experienced first teamers for various reasons, and six of the starting line up were under 21, with two of them, including goalie Kyle Irvine only 17 years old, as well as two 18 year olds.

Right from the off, Buckie set the tempo, opening the scoring after only 3 minutes through Adam McLeod.  Further strikes from Sam Morrison, Kevin Fraser, another from, McLeod and Sam Urquhart’s first of his eventual treble, saw the floodgates well and truly open.

Urquhart netted again, before ex-Maroon Andy Macaskill got on the scoresheet to send the young visitors trooping in at half-time seven goals in arrears.

The early stages of the second half saw the Maroons play with a bit more purpose, but then with 61 minutes played they were rocked when McCredie, still only 18 years old, received two quick fire yellow cards.

Another former Maroon, Sam Pugh, had the ball in the net but was flagged offside. His goal was only delayed though when the ball came off the face of the crossbar and he pounced to slam home. Macaskill then hit the bar from 18 yards, and the post with a 20 yard free kick.

Substitute Callum Murray made it 9-0 before Andrews received a second yellow card four minutes from the end, following an altercation with Mark McLauchlan. A minute later the score-line went into double figures, Urquhart crashing the ball into the roof of the net for his hat-trick.

KEITH – Irvine, McCredie, Yeats, Andrews, Grant, Hutcheon, Yunus, Nawrocki (McKeown), Selfridge, Ironside, Emmett. Subs unused – Reid, Stewart, Christie.
