Keith 2 v Turriff United 1
MAROONS END WINLESS RUN
Keith ended a seven game winless run with an enthralling victory over visitors Turriff Utd by the odd goal in three. The Maroons hadn’t won since 8th October but early first half goals from Tom Andrews and Liam Duncan paved the way to a most welcome three points. Despite a goal for Turra a minute from a half-time, a battling second half display saw Craig Ewen’s men emerge as worthy winners.
The opening goal after only six minutes set Keith on their way, Andrews pouncing to slam the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards. A second goal in the 23rd minute put them in the driving seat, Duncan racing through to neatly clip the ball wide of ex-Maroons custodian David Dey and into the bottom corner.
Keith goalie Craig Reid’s first real save came in the 42nd minute, brilliantly keeping out Ewan Clark’s net bound drive. He was exasperated on the stroke of half-time however as he tried vainly to keep out Reece McKeown’s scrappy effort.
Although Turra had the bulk of the second half pressure, the homesters defended stoutly, throwing their bodies on the line and also finding time to cause problems in the opposing penalty are as well. The peep of the referee’s whistle to signal the end of the match caused celebration in the Keith camp acknowledging the end of the no win sequence.
