Clach 2 v Keith 1

MAROONS UNLUCKY IN INVERNESS

This was a tough one for Keith to take as they left Grant Street Park empty handed. In some recent outings the Maroons had struggled to get even one shot at goal, but against Clach they ended up with nine shots on target, five shots off target and forced eight corners, but could only get one goal for their efforts. Although they came home pointless, stretching their no win sequence to nine games, Gavin Elphinstone’s first goal for the Club ended a 485 minute goal drought. In the second half in particular they drove forward and nobody would have begrudged them a share of the spoils, indeed even a win.

Following an end to end start to the game, the Maroons fell behind in the 17th minute when wee Lewis MacKenzie zipped in from  the right wing to curl the ball into the far top corner. Keith heads didn’t bow and sticking to their task deservedly squared matters with 36 minutes played, recent signing Elphinstone driving forward and saw his parting shot take a deflection into the net.

However, four minutes before half-time the Lily Whites nabbed what turned out to be the winner. A left wing free kick saw pivot Gary Warren get in front of the rearguard to slam home from 12 yards.

The Maroons dictated the bulk of the second half, but just could not get that equaliser, Dem Yunus being denied by goalie Daniel Rae, Elphinstone again, and stout home defending cleared a couple of other net bound efforts, whilst a shot was also deflected onto the cross bar.

It has to be said this was a much better display in comparison to some recent outings, and surely if this form can be replicated, then a win is on the cards sooner rather later.
