Keith 0 v Turriff Utd 0

GOAL-LESS STALEMATE AT KYNOCH PARK

Back in February 1951, Keith walloped Turra 9-4 in the Aberdeenshire Cup, but 74 years later there was more chance of me winning the Knock Hill Race than that score-line being replicated. Both sides have found bulging the old onion bag quite a rarity this season, so creating chances, never mind taking them, made the 31st League encounter between the teams a tough watch for spectators.

The Maroons had Horace Ormsby making his 50th competitive appearance, and had an unchanged starting line-up, with Aberdeen loanees Zak To and Jack Searle on the subs bench following their outing for their parent Club in last week’s League Cup match at Elgin City.

Craig’s Commandos, looking to build on their previous week’s win at Nairn, started quite brightly, though Nathan McKeown should possibly have done better than fire wide from the edge of the 6 yard box in the 10th minute. Then a couple of minutes later, goal hero at Nairn, wee Mikey Ironside pulled a fine diving save out of Turra goalie Lee Herbert. Man, that was close!

However, as the half wore on, Turra began to bite back but as play swung back and forth, neither goalie was called upon to be perfectly honest.

After the half time cuppa the second half was a bit devoid of goalmouth incidents, until the 63rd minute that is! Turra custodian Herbert struck out at Liam Duncan inside the six yard box and received the opportunity to test the bath water a mite earlier than he’d anticipated.. yep, a red card, with Liam earning a yellow card for his part in the “incident”.

Now, if we thought this would see the Maroons gain the upper hand we were sadly mistaken, as you didn’t really notice that the visitors were down to 10 men, Keith failing to make the extra set of legs count.

Methinks we could have played into the evening without anybody breaking the deadlock, it had that sort of feel to it. From a Keith point of view however, it was a second successive clean sheet and a point, though Lossiemouth’s victory against Rothes pushed the Maroons back into second bottom spot in the table.

KEITH – Reid, Craib, Lynch, Addison, Spink, Cooper (C Robertson 84), Ormsby, Gill, McKeown, Duncan (To 68), Ironside (Searle 59). Subs unused – Barron, Bird, Paterson, Smith.

Referee – Mr W Adam
