Keith 3 Nairn County 2
CAMMY’S THE TOAST OF KYNOCH PARK!
Blimey, what a floodlight feast of fittie we had at the Field of Dreams on Wednesday night, that’s for sure! A five goal thriller, two lightning fast early Keith goals, a Nairn County red card, a Ben Barron double drawing County level, and a late penalty winner for Craig’s Commandos, making Cammy Wilson the Toast of Kynoch Park. The 18 year old Aberdeen loanee became the first Maroon to hit a tasty Treble since Kieran Mooney against Strathspey Thistle away back in October 2022.
The hard fought victory ended a three game losing run and gave Keith their first home League win over the Wee County since October 2018. Two of that winning side, Ryan Robertson and Ryan Spink played key roles in this latest win.
After the drab, end of season affair served up against Wick Academy on Saturday, man, what a sizzling start we had to this tussle. Two goals inside the opening three minutes left County gasping and my pen in meltdown trying to keep up! Two minutes after Harry Bruce blew his peeper to get the game underway young Wilson pounced on a loose ball to send a diving header home from 8 yards – Ya Beezer Cammy! Then, barely a minute later, the young whirlwind had us Maroons rubbing our eyes in disbelief as he raced through to slam a low 15 yarder into the bottom corner – Jings, my quill wiz positively smokin’!!
Young Cammy was in shoot on sight mode that’s for sure, as he sent a drive crashing into the side netting, then fired a volley inches past the post. Then with 33 minutes played Zane Laird had the perfect chance to increase the lead, but dauchled too long and the opportunity was gone.
Two minutes into the second half it looked like tatties ower the side for County when Wayne MacIntosh received a second yellow card for simulation inside the penalty area. However, they girded their loins and forced several corners, and following one such award in the 62nd minute Ben Barron headed home from 8 yards.
With County heads up, the Maroons were on the back foot and it was all square in the 70th minute when Barron fired home from 10 yards. Jeezo – were Keith going to end up empty handed after their excellent first half display? Well, the double substitution of Jordan Cooper and Brody Alberts renewed the home challenge, and with 10 minutes remaining, the referee pointed to the spot. Nae pressure on young Cammy eh? - the young fellow stepped up and ever so coolly sent the goalie one way, and tucked the ball into the opposite corner of the ingin’ bag – an instant feeling of overwhelming elation amongst those of us of a Maroon persuasion.
The victory gave Keith their first home win since November 30th last year – a 1-0 win against Clach…..who scored the goal? - Cammy Wilson!!
