Huntly 2 v Keith 2
MAROONS SHARE SPOILS IN DERBY CLASH
If truth be known Keith ought to have travelled back along the A96 with three points on Saturday, but threw away a two goal lead to end up sharing the spoils with a lowly Huntly outfit.
Two quick fire goals in the space of three minutes appeared to set the Maroons on the road to victory, but scorned chances and two avoidable goals at the other end, meant neither side could grab bragging rights.
An end to end first half ended goal-less with the best chance of a goal seeing Jamie McAllister's powerful header being brilliantly parried by Huntly custodian John Farquhar.
Seven minutes after the break Greg Simpson pulled off an excellent point blank stop to deny Nathan Meres. However, the deadlock was broken at the other end two minutes later when a super Craig Macaskill left wing cross saw Michael Selfridge rise to nod home at the back post. ‘Selfie’ just missed out with another header a couple of minutes later.
However, sixty seconds later, with practically his first touch, all-time top scorer Cammy aKeith pounced to wheel and clinically slot home his third goal of the season from eight yards.
All over bar the shouting? Not on your Nellie - for within ten minutes the Strathbogie men nabbed one back through ex-Keith loanee Kai Ross, who slammed a drive into the roof of the net. Two minutes later, Selfridge should have been more clinical, but his sweeping shot was booted away by Farquhar at his left hand post. Cammy Keith then scorned a real snip, scooting the ball wide of target from six yards.
Misses always come back to bite you on the bum, and sure enough with 78 minutes on the clock, it was all square when Declan Milne turned to slam into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
Not a particularly dirty match by any means, more a keenly contested derby tussle, but Huntly had Logan Johnstone red carded in the dying seconds, along with seven bookings, whilst the Maroons had two bookings in the shape of Yeats and Keith.
