Keith 0 v Inverurie Loco Works 2
MAROONS EXIT SHIELD
Keith are Five times Winners of the Aberdeenshire District Shield, appearing in eight Finals, but the Maroons failed to progress from what was their 50th match in the Competition stretching back to 1990, despite a spirited second half display against victors Inverurie Locos.
There was a minute’s silence prior to Kick Off in respect of ex-Maroon and Highland League Cup Winner of 1988, James Pirie, who sadly passed away suddenly earlier in the week.
Two goals in the opening sixteen minutes did the damage, with the opener coming in the 5th minute, Jay Halliday punishing defensive uncertainty. Then experienced striker Garry Wood capitalised on slack marking following a free kick to send a diving header beyond the diving Kyle Irvine.
Irvine pulled off several fine saves to keep his side in the hunt, and despite an energetic second half, the homesters couldn’t find the required spark in front of goals.
KEITH – Irvine, Coull, Yeats, Thomas, Robertson, Killoh (McKeown 76), Tough (Duncan 79), Brownie, Mooney (Ironside 70), Yunus, Andrews. Subs unused – Grant, Gray.
Referee – Mr L Robertson
